Journal Entry - Day 5 - Bogota, Colombia

Well, unfortunately, the week has gotten away from me, again!! I'll have to catch up on three days worth of journal entries today!

We had a day off on July Fourth, which was exciting and good to get off for one day.

Journal Entry:

July 4, 2012:

"Today was free day! It was a surprise of what we would do, but it ended up being so much fun! We went on a tour around the city - or certain parts of the city - we walked and did not ride the bus, and it was quite fun to walk the streets of the city. We took a lot of pictures and even walked by some important governmental buildings. We had a buddy system so that we did not lose track of people, and the rest of the week we always made sure that we had our buddy with us. I was with Krystal, one of my roomates, and we had so much fun together! :) After we went on the walking tour through some of the city, we went on a tour through a coin and art museum. The old coin machines were very neat to see, but the art was interesting .... very interesting. There is this famous Colombian artist who likes to paint fat people and fat naked people. It was kind of creepy! :/ Then we were supposed to walk to the Gold Museum, but when we arrived they told us that it would take an hour and a half to take the tour. So, we decided since we had not eaten lunch, to not go to the tour and go to lunch, which ended up taking a whole 2 or more hours! But the resturant was really good and we had so much fun talking and laughing and spending some relaxing time that was not so emotionally stressing.

Well, by the time we finished lunch, we decided to not go back to the Gold Museum to do the tour, but to go ahead and head up the mountain to a little market/shopping area. We traveled up to the top of the mountain on a cable car and reached the top safely. We took pictures of the AMAZING  landscape and the gigantic, but beautiful spread of Bogota, Colombia. Then we went shopping in the street market/vending area that was behind a Catholic church that was on the mountain. We shopped until 5 pm or longer than we ran back to church to get many group pictures taken; then we went back to the bus by 6 or so. It took us a while to drive home that night, but we eventually made it home."

And this is where it ends or that I will put down in this blog. :)

It was good to have a free day and spend time with my fellow sisters and brothers in Christ.
